I’ve talked about the DevTerm — the little, Linux-powered “slab” laptop that shows significant design inspiration from the legendary TRS-80 Model 100 “slabtop” from the 1980s — many, many times.
I mean, how could I not? Just look at it!
Now, some developers have done something both obvious and wonderful:
They have taken a TRS-80 Model 100 emulator… and modified it to work just right on the DevTerm.
Thus taking a modern, currently produced machine — and making it capable of almost completely replicating the experience of the TRS-80 Model 100 (minus the AA batteries and external floppy drive). Check this out:
You can grab the project from the “VirtualT-DevTerm” project on GitHub.
For comparison, here is the TRS-80 Model 100 from 1983:
Do I really need to convince my wife to let me get a DevTerm?
Yes. Yes, I do.
So, since your last article, I bought a DevTerm on eBay with an a04 SoM. I also just got the notice that my R-01 is on its way. Good times.
