The other day I was checking out daedalOS — a web “desktop” — that contained an almost obscene number of features for a webpage (DOOM, emulators, the works… it’s like a full OS in your browser).
Contained within daedalOS, there was the ability to launch something called “Webamp”, which appeared to be a re-implementation of Winamp… as Javascript and such.
Well, turns out that “Webamp” is even more full featured than I first realized… and has been around for a couple of years now in a standalone form: Webamp.org
Includes the ability to play local MP3’s, a fully functional Equalizer, visualizers, playlists (that are exportable), and the ability to load any old Winamp theme.
Seriously.
It’s all up on GitHub and it is absolutely bonkers.
While this is certainly way too much Javascript for my taste (I’m an old fuddy duddy that way)… this is darn impressive. And makes me nostalgic for the good old days of MP3 players.
