Time to admire some of the greatest, illustrated computer magazine covers of all time.

One year ago, we took a quick look at the — absolutely amazing — computer themed artwork of Robert Tinney, which graced the covers of BYTE magazine during the 1970s and 1980s.

And now seems like an excellent time to revisit the work of Robert Tinney: some of the most amazing pieces of art, about computers, to ever be created. A time to marvel at how truly gorgeous the magazine covers of the 70s and 80s could be.

What follows is a carefully curated collection of BYTE magazine covers from between 1977 and 1981. All illustrated by Tinney.

I love this one. First saw it in a library back in the 1980s. Tinney’s work sticks with you.

I still want that watch.

“HELLO COMPUTER”

I absolutely adore the early days of personal computing… when people were imagining computer for different family members and rooms of the house.

You have not experienced Shakespeare, until you have read him in the original… FORTRAN.

So many of his covers were grand in scope. Depicting timeless scenes… with a computer added in. Love that.

This one definitely needs to be an album cover.

That abacus seems… hard to use.
