Lunduke Journal Events for April - BBS Game Tournament, Linux Sucks, Hangout
Just some nerdy fun.
Looking ahead to April, there are three events set to take place: A BBS Game tournament, Linux Sucks 2022, and a casual hangout.
TradeWars & LORD Tournaments @ The House of Lunduke BBS
Friday, April 8th - High Noon (Pacific Time)… through May 8th - High Noon
We’re going to run two tournaments of classic BBS gaming over on The House of Lunduke BBS. Because it sounds fun. And everyone should get the chance to do an early 1990s style BBS gaming tournament every so often.
Both will run for for 30 days — ending May 8th. Top 3 players (in each game) will earn fame and glory — and be immortalized here on the pages of The Lunduke Journal.
How to take part:
If you do not yet have an account on The House of Lunduke BBS, make one. It’s free.
If you are a full subscriber to The Lunduke Journal (on Substack or on Locals), follow the directions on the bottom of this page to get a 24x7 upgrade to your account. (Non-subscribers get a free 30 minutes per day, which is still enough to play in the Tournaments.) I have fallen a bit behind on getting all those accounts upgraded, but I’ll have those all upgraded before the tournament starts.
Feel free to play some of the existing TradeWars2002 or LORD games on the BBS to get a feel for them (if you haven’t played before). These will all be wiped out when the tournament begins.
On April 8th, the tournament begins. Log in, whenever you like, and play.
To give yourself the best shot, you’ll want to log in and play daily. Daily turns should be doable in a short time, and can be done from a smartphone if needed. So it’s a commitment… but not a big one.
The rules for both games are roughly the same:
You can use an alter-ego in each game, or use your real BBS name. Play as you, or play as a character. Choice is yours.
No cursin’ and swearin’. Family friendly. (Assume PG-rated 1980s Show level.)
No creating a second BBS user account to help out your real one. One account.
Turns per day are slightly elevated, but kept low enough to be able to make all of your turns, each day, pretty quickly.
Linux Sucks 2022
Friday, April 23rd - High Noon (Pacific Time)
This years Linux Sucks show was originally set to debut at LundukeFest.
Then I got sick and we had to delay LundukeFest by quite a bit. In fact, I’m still not up for doing a full day of shows (which is what is needed for LundukeFest).
But, luckily, I am now physically able to do a one hour show. So that’s what we’re going to do.
On April 23rd, I’ll be presenting Linux Sucks 2022. A one hour event that will only be made available to full subscribers to The Lunduke Journal (on Substack and on Locals).
Recording will be made available afterwards (again, only for full subscribers).
Oh, goodness. Where’d that button come from?!
LundukeFest will return to the schedule as soon as I can pull it off physically.
Founding Member Hangout
Week of April 25th.
A one hour video chat hangout with the Founding Member Subscribers of The Lunduke Journal. No set topic. Maybe we’ll chat about Linux-y stuff… or BBQ… or the meaning of life. Who knows. Whatever we all feel like.
We will see what exact date and time work best for the most Founding Member Subscribers.
That’s the run-down for April. I’m really looking forward to all three events, for very different reasons. Going to be a fun, goofy month.
