TradeWars and LORD BBS Tournament begins!
An old-school BBS gaming tournament via Telnet. All are welcome!
The Great Lunduke Journal BBS Gaming Tournament has begun!
It started about 5 seconds ago, and runs for exactly 30 days (until May 8th).
All of the action will take place over on The House of Lunduke BBS, accessible via telnet at:
bbs.lunduke.com on port 23
I highly recommend using a Telnet client that specifically handles ANSI graphics for the best experience. Check out the House of Lunduke BBS article for multiple options.
There will be two games being played in this tournament (you can choose to play one or both): TradeWars 2002 (TW) and Legend of the Red Dragon (LORD).
At the end of the tournament (May 8th), the winners will be announced!
The prize: Honor and glory!
The top three players in each game will be immortalized here on The Lunduke Journal and within the ANSI art of the House of Lunduke BBS.
How to take part:
If you do not yet have an account on The House of Lunduke BBS, make one. It’s free.
If you are a full subscriber to The Lunduke Journal (on Substack or on Locals), follow the directions on the bottom of this page to get a 24x7 upgrade to your account. (This isn’t strictly necessary, as the full turns for both games can be completed in less than 30 minutes.)
The tournament has begun (as of April 8). Log in, whenever you like, and play. If you missed the first few days, never fear! The tournament lasts for 30 days, so plenty of time to catch up!
To give yourself the best shot, you’ll want to log in and play daily. Daily turns should be doable in a short time, and can be done from a smartphone if needed. So it’s a commitment… but not a big one
The rules for both games are roughly the same:
You can use an alter-ego in each game, or use your real BBS name. Play as you, or play as a character. Choice is yours.
No cursin’ and swearin’. Family friendly. (Assume PG-rated 1980s Show level.)
No creating a second BBS user account to help out your real one. One account.
Turns per day are slightly elevated, but kept low enough to be able to make all of your turns, each day, pretty quickly.
See you in-game!
