Gotta weigh in - Bard's Tale, Impossible Mission, Raid on Bungling Bay and Boulder Dash are personal favorites of mine - but this is a very good list - Defender of the Crown, Ultima IV, Pirates!, and Maniac Mansion are all in my top 10 too!
All quality games. If I had a bigger list some of those would have made it. Impossible Mission ("Stay awhile!") and Bard's Tale were both cut from my list late in the process. ;)
"Defender of the Crown" was my fave C64 game. It did look cooler on my friend's Amiga. I never played any of the Ultima games or any of the other games mentioned. The graphic for "Wasteland" reminded me of another of my C64 favorites: "Overlord."
I missed a lot of these back in the day. I'll be giving them a try.
Some of my favorites were: Spy Hunter, Load Runner, Jumpman, Spy vs Spy -- although I never got very far, Archon. I also liked Impossible Mission, but again, didn't get very far.

I had a C64 for years, and I think the only game on this list I've plated is Elite.
I honestly expected more checkboxes :D
Elite is such a fantastic game.
