I for one would definitely love a version of Microsoft Word that I could use by ssh'ing into a UNIX box to use at the CLI. Even if it was just a stripped down version that did the bare essentials and not much else, but you could open the docs in full-fat word for Windows (or .... UNIX-for-X11) at a later date and see them in a WYSIWIG format. Very nice...
There is WordGrinder https://cowlark.com/wordgrinder/ I don't think it can save as MSWord doc/docx. Most people that need serious word processing in a terminal will use vim and LaTeX then convert it to whatever other format they need it in. I know WordGrinder supports LaTeX. You can use pandoc to convert, edit, then convert back.
Indeed. I have done that a number of times, but as with everything conversion, YMMV and, most of the time, it really has varied negatively.
