YES! I remember all of those studies they did about how text based interfaces are SO MUCH BETTER for things like data input. I suspect that is still true today. And yet... everyone wants a mouse. Give me keyboard shortcuts or give me death! :)

I think you have to take into account, user bloat.

I would not dream of having the different programs running with the number of browser windows open on a 1999 iMac that I now routinely do.

This reminds me very much of some demos showing full-motion video with synchronized sound on the XT with a simple VGA card and Adlib. Given that there are ethernet NICs for the XT, this would mean that every common task done on a computer today, could also be done on an XT. The only major exceptions that come to mind are high resolution audio and video production/consumption which require far more processing power and GPU power and RAM. I figure people just got lazy, and therefore coding within any limitation is now verboten. Then again… software is a fluid and expands to fill its container.

My hypothesis is that since all modern operating systems basically require to be connected to the Internet, they probably spend every free CPU second watching porn and masturbating...

I wish we could have just continued on with DOS past 6.22. I know there's FreeDOS, and that's awesome, but everyone is used to GUIs and desktop interfaces now and I just don't think we need them. I say this writing in a web browser with a GUI and desktop, but nevertheless, I think I was slightly more productive when my computer was limited to just my console.
