What if… WHAT IF… The Game Boy (the original, green screened beauty)… had WiFi?
Ridiculous, right? Absolutely insane, right?
Well one lovely, amazing engineer has actually gone and done it.
Sebastian Staacks has created an open source Game Boy cartridge that brings honest to goodness WiFi to the 32 year old game console. And it looks like this:
Pretty, right?
Sebastian has written up the development process, with excruciatingly glorious details of how it works, in a blog post. He’s even provided a complete parts list!
Check out this video for more background and visuals:
And then this video for a 3D rendering of the PCB. Which is just pretty.
But, wait! There’s more!
Mr Staacks has managed to stream video, over WiFi, to a Game Boy! This is real!
There’s no sound. And the resolution is crazy low (because it’s a Game Boy). But the fact that it works at all is downright amazing.
Well done, Mr Staacks. Well done.
