Not to question your very thorough research, but the timeline does not quite square with my recollection. I was in college around the time Mac OS started supporting color. As I recall, this required Mac OS 7, which suffered many delays (which was the subject of ridicule on MST3k, as memory serves). It was brand spanking new in 1991-2, and only supported on brand new (and extremely expensive) hardware. I remember feeling very smug about my Amiga 500’s graphics, despite its relative lack of productivity applications. Emulation software for the Amiga was still in its infancy at the time. 1987-1991 was still very much a monochrome time for Mac OS, at least for us rank and file users.
