Thinking abaout the great Gary Kildall
CP/M, DRI, GEM, & The Computer Chronicles. Gary Kildall accomplished so many amazing things.
I’ve been sick in bed for the last several days, and this morning I found myself watching old videos of The Computer Chronicles. Mostly the old episodes with Gary Kildall.
If you aren’t familiar with Gary, I highly recommend watching a special edition of The Computer Chronicles about his life (filmed a year after he passed away).
Gary had an astoundingly profound impact on all of computing. But, on a personal level, his work with DRI and talking about computing (on The Computer Chronicles) heavily influenced my life and my work.
I was lucky enough to sit down with Stewart Cheifet (Gary’s friend and the main host of The Computer Chronicles — also an incredibly nice guy) a few years back to talk about Gary and his amazing legacy (among other things). You can watch it for free over on Locals.
Though I highly recommend watching the Gary Kildall Special first, if you haven’t seen it before (or recently).
