The CDE-look-a-like desktop gets a 2.0 release
The Not so Common Desktop Environment (NsCDE) has old-school looks... and it is gorgeous.
Earlier today, NsCDE (the Not so Common Desktop Environment) had an official 2.0 release.

What is NsCDE?
NsCDE is a retro but powerful
UNIX desktop environment
which resemblesCDE
look (and partially feel) but with a more powerful and flexible framework beneath-the-surface, more suited for 21st centuryunix-like
andLinux
systems and user requirements than originalCDE
.NsCDE can be considered as a heavyweight
FVWM
theme on steroids, but combined with a couple other free software components and customFVWM
applications and a lot of configuration, NsCDE can be considered a lightweight hybrid desktop environment.
In a nutshell: NsCDE is taking the look and feel of the old CDE (which ran on UNIX workstations, like HP/UX) and re-implementing it all on top of modern architecture. Because, while the original CDE has been open-sourced, it has some drawbacks when running on modern Linux systems.

Setting this up on my Linux laptop right now. Because… just look at it.
