I don't know anything about Firefox OS, but IMO the comparison would be: If it was built to only run web apps, then that's fine, but it should let you run any web app that it supports, not just web apps that are "blessed" by Firefox and found in their store. If it didn't let you run apps outside of it's controlled store then I would have a problem with it and not support it. There's a reason I don't own any Apple hardware except for iPods where I can "sideload" all of my mp3's onto (using Windows, Mac, or Linux clients).

So Firefox OS was evil? You couldn’t install software on there, you could only use webapps. Which is how iPhone OS 1 was designed too. All being banned from the App Store means is that you have to rely on your webapp from now on.
