I would think not allowing AI submissions would be easier. Linux being very compatible with a wide range of hardware is a large part of why people like it.
Drivers originally went into the kernel because otherwise performance was abysmal. It was a damn stupid design decision, and now drivers are at the mercy of the kernel.
I noticed the prices starting to creep up. I suggest you do what I am, finding used ones online and picking up the ones that are reasonable. Soon it is going to be way too expensive for the average guy (me) to get.
It is like getting a 4K blu-ray player for the TV. Those are ridiculously priced in the pursuit of halting production on physical disks. Meanwhile, they still sell 4k disks like it is common.
I got my blu-ray drive about 5 years ago for 20 bucks. Though realistically I only needed it to rip the extended editions of LOTR - everything else we have is DVD
The prices going up is a result of them no longer being manufactured - Japan is responsible for a good portion of the demand, as they aren't stupid and like physical media

Dumb decision? I thought physical device management was the whole point of a kernel.
The problem is that locks your hardware into only what the kernel supports. External drivers are a lot more flexible.
I remember when it was a BIG DEAL (enough to get an article on Slashdot) when a new printer driver was added to the linux kernel.
I can picture it now... printer drivers get removed, renewing the age old war of making the things work.
