Linux Foundation releases Linux as NFT
Each Linux kernel source code file will be auctioned off as an NFT on the Etherium blockchain.
The Linux Foundation has today announced they will soon be releasing the entire Linux kernel as a series of limited edition NFTs.
“We at the Linux Foundation have been actively diversifying our business,” stated Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of The Linux Foundation. “Over the course of 2021 we’ve created a new Vaccine Passport endeavor as well as a 3D Game Engine for Windows. Both of which are clearly directly related to our core Linux business. Breaking into the NFT market was the next obvious step for us.”
According the press release, each source code file for the Linux Kernel will be released as individual NFTs. The resulting 62,296 NFTs will be auctioned off on the Etherium blockchain.
It is expected that this NFT sale could bring in between $250 and $500 Million USD.
“I like Money,” stated Zemlin while sipping from a 64oz jug of Brawndo, The Thirst Mutilator.
The Twitterverse was quick to provide opinions on the new NFT offering.
The Linux Foundation has also not ruled out future NFT offerings based on the source code for the Linux kernel.
