This morning I was working on an article talking about a few old, regional computer newspapers and magazines.
… but I need to pause for just a moment and direct your attention to this gorgeous hunk of metal, advertised in the May, 1987 issue of “Puget Sound Computer User” (a regional computer paper published in the Seattle, Washington area).
I mean. Just look at it!
The full ad is equally spectacular.
Two floppies! A 1.2MB and a 360K!
Color EGA graphics!
A 40 MB hard drive! (An MFM drive, I’m assuming.)
A 286! At 10 Mhz!
A meg of RAM! A MEG!
But, most importantly… look at that case!
BIG! Beige! Metal! With a lock on the front. And a turbo button (just like the good lord intended computers to have)!
And, speaking from experience with that exact case, it has a big, red power switch in the back on the right hand side. One which has a satisfying “KA-CHUNK” when you switch it on.
One odd bit: The picture shows MS-DOS. The ad lists PC-DOS 3.1. But I’ve decided to let that pass. Because everything else is just too gosh darned gorgeous.
A 286, EGA PC from 1987.
1.2 MB and 360K means, you cannot copy a 1.2M Disc in one go... I would take it nonetheless!
